As we all adjust to this new way of life as home workers, home teachers and keeping socially distant we wanted to find a way of bringing FSC experiences to young people who are missing out on opportunities for outdoor learning due to Covid-19.

Working in partnership with Encounter Edu, FSC have launched #FieldworkLive. Streaming YouTube Live Lessons from a range of locations (Education staff’s home gardens or centre grounds). #Fieldworklive will bring ten live lessons for different age groups, giving all students the valuable opportunity to take part in fieldwork this spring.

Plans for #FieldworkLive began about 4 weeks ago, before school closures and “lockdown”, and before most had even heard of “Social Distancing”. As a result, plans changed almost daily for the first couple of weeks as the situation with Coronavirus in the UK evolved.

Education teams in all centres pulled together to produce resource packs for teachers, parents and young people to use prior to and during the Live lessons, and with the skills of the team at FSC Publications these are being turned into really professional looking products.

Now a small group of education staff from around the charity are planning the delivery of Live Lessons in preparation for two weeks of broadcasts to the world!

The response on social media and to email campaigns has been incredible, so we are expecting the Live Lessons to be really well attended (but don’t tell the presenters, we don’t want to freak them out!)

#FieldworkLive will cater for four age groups;

  • Primary (7-11)
  • Lower Secondary (11-14)
  • Upper Secondary (14-16)
  • Those looking to study Geography and Biology beyond Secondary (16-18).
