It’s been fantastic to see how staff at centres are celebrating our 80th Anniversary year. From picnics and team-building games to some very impressive-looking cakes, it’s great to see everyone coming together to celebrate such a milestone.

Amersham

The team at Amersham enjoyed a celebratory lunch which included homemade cakes. The team managed a game of Kubb outside despite the rain.

They also had a visit from a rare butterfly (a female Purple Emperor) that came into the classroom on the day. The ensuing excitement, photos, confirmation of species and feeding of said butterfly made it feel like a true Field Studies Council event!

Blencathra

The team at Blencathra celebrated our 80 years by hosting a local primary school in tree planting and sessions in their new outdoor classroom.

Bishops Wood

The team at Bishops Wood got together to celebrate 80 years with a homemade 80th birthday cake!

Castle Head

The team at Castle Head organised a get-together and celebratory staff picnic to celebrate 80 years of outdoor education.

Nick O’Loughlin was able to join them plus (almost) all of the current staff team and some old faces. It was a lovely event and great for the team to have a good catch-up and celebrate this significant birthday.

Slapton Ley

The team at Slapton Ley marked our 80th year with two very special occasions.

They hosted a commemorative tree planting to honour our 80th year run by ranger Kieran who enlisted the help of a group of their volunteers.

The staff have also been working hard on their green fund project, the upgrading and remodelling of their composting loo.
With the help of local contractor, Eddie Church, who has been creating incredible things out of wood for many years at Slapton, their new facility is now fully functioning. The composting loo was finished with a beautiful handmade commemorative mosaic plaque. Well done to everyone involved.

We will be updating this page should any further events take place at centres. If you’d like your event featured, please email photographs and details of your event to [email protected]
