The sun is shining and birdsong is drifting through my open office window – everywhere is feeling very spring-like…

In recent years we have asked Centres to track the arrival of spring via four landmark events as part of our spring index survey. For 2019 onward FSC has partnered with the Woodland Trust Natures Calendar project to ensure that our spring (and other seasonal) observations go into a nation-wide phonological survey.

Rather than FSC collect their own Spring Index data for 2019 and beyond and then share it with Natures Calendar, it was deemed better for Centres to submit their Spring Index (and other phenology observations) directly to Natures Calendar – Sara shared this at some of the November training last year.

What you need to do…..

Register a Centre account (using a Centre email address, not an individual persons email) on the Natures Calendar website http://naturescalendar.woodlandtrust.org.uk

When your email is verified there is a question about where you heard about Natures Calendar – Select the FSC option – This means that we can extract a report of all observations from the Natures Calendar database that were made by people linked to FSC.

By working with Natures Calendar in this way we can;

  • Make phenology observations throughout the whole year, not just spring
  • Contribute our data directly into a larger scheme
  • Retrieve all data about our locations in one go at the end of the year
