Earlier this month FSC colleagues attended and presented at the joint Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC) and Outdoor Education Advisers Panel (OEAP) conference.

What’s FSC doing about the Climate Emergency? The simple answer is that we are doing lots. The new strategy has sustainability at its heart, and we need to practice what we teach. The food we serve has a big carbon footprint, so making changes will pay a big part in reducing FSC’s environmental impact.

As you may know the marketing team have been working on redeveloping the FSC website and we are pleased to say that the new website will be going live on Monday evening / Tuesday.

A new programme of professional learning will help educators in the Tayside region make connections between nature settings, Outdoor Learning approaches, and STEM subjects. FSC Scotland and the John Muir Trust will be jointly delivering practical and online training to promote the idea of ‘STEM by Nature’.

A new Action Plan confirms a significant Scottish Government commitment to Learning for Sustainability as “an entitlement for all learners”. Launched by Deputy First Minister John Swinney MSP, it sets out how a wide range of partners and practitioners (including FSC) will incorporate global citizenship, sustainable development education and outdoor learning in ways that effectively respond to the growing interests, passions and concerns articulated by young people.

In recent weeks, marine biologists from the FSC Millport Education Team have been featured in a series of podcast episodes that focus on the amazing marine environment of the Clyde and the fieldwork opportunities at FSC Millport.

This week a Head Office monthly staff meeting and short East group Education training session focused on the Nature Friendly Schools (NFS) project giving those in attendance the opportunity to take part in a short outdoor session, focused on positive wellbeing outcomes.
